“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.” ~ Nelson Mandela

True to Tata’s quote on the power sports, members of #RunningWithSoleAC attended the 1st Run Alex Fun Run held on Human Rights, 21 March 2023

Various clubs take part in the 5km and 8km runs including the fun walk. It was a great mood overall with lots of singing and dancing prior to the start of the event and runners were in high spirits. The club had over 18 members taking part in the Fun Run. What was quite clear, members of the club had Personal Bests (PBs) to achieve and they did exactly by ensuring that they are in the top 25 of the finishers. The female members of the club went for a clean sweep at the Fun Run.

Mantsha Maponya, the club’s Head of Social Media and PR came first in the ladies 8km with an amazing time of 42:06. Sibongile Radebe, the club’s Deputy Secretary and member of the Executive Team came 11th with a time of 48:03. Sithembile Mtshweni finished 17th with a time of 49:04 and was followed by Simangele Kunene who came 21st with a time of 49:01. Duduzile Mtshweni took the 25th place by finishing just under 50 minutes with a time of 50:27. “Running in Alex was fun and reminded one of how important it is to stay grounded and appreciate the little things in life,” said Mantsha.

In the Men’s line up, Philani Nkosi finished at 7th place in the Men’s 8km with an amazing time of 28:00. Vuyo Mabope came 19th overall in the men’s 8km. “I had a great run and could have done better but there was a hill that dealt with me for a kilometre. It is back to the drawing board on hill repeats for me,” said Philani Nkosi.

The Club’s Chairman and Founder, Tumi Sole was ecstatic with the overall results and support and said “#RunningWithSoleAC is a newbie with less than 3 months having being registered with Central Gauteng Athletics. The results are excellent and serve as an encouragement to all the members of the club that with the necessary support, training and focus, we could all achieve amazing things.”
